A small burrowing species that live on the coastal sands of the central and Northern parts of the West Coast. The males are relatively easy to get when the conditions are right but females seem to almost never leave their burrows.

A species that can be found close to the coastal regions in the Namaqualand where it inhabits the loose dune sands of the area. Like many other sand dwelling animals they have the adaptation of hairy feet that helps give traction in the loose substrate; hence
the scientific name ammos=sand and pous=foot.
